About the New Inn

It is with great pleasure that the Estop Family, Matthew, his wife Zeta, Maurice and the team, welcome you to the New Inn – Now in our 36th year.

A village inn situated 1.5 miles behind the ruins of Corfe Castle, in the picturesque village of Church Knowle in Dorset. Full of olde world charm & character, with lovely inglenook fire places and a brick alcove that used to be the original farm house kitchen oven. The village inn is situated in a valley surrounded by the beautiful rolling Purbeck hills, a walkers paradise with plenty of pub walks.

Originally part of a 16th century working farm, with records of licensees dating back to the 1881 British census, the Estop name is only the 4th name on the license in 160 years, now the second generation Estop name, with son Matthew joint licensee and head chef. As a family we have been welcoming customers since 1985.

1994 we created our lounge restaurant from the original kitchen, and sitting room of the original farmhouse. Access was added to the bar, formerly the Tudor barn, at the same time the new kitchen was built to enable us to offer a wider variety of home cooked quality food.

We offer a menu of daily fresh fish and home made produce featuring traditional British favourites with a modern twist. In January 2015, our menu was rewritten for those with pure food indulgence in mind, including family dining and great emphasis on quality and presentation. With seasonally inspired dishes and ever changing fresh fish and seasonal specials, we are proud to be featured in all good food guides since 1978.

The Castle room with vaulted ceiling and decorated with many spectacular photographs of Corfe Castle and surrounding beauty spots, is an intimate dining room for groups of up to 14 people, with full menu and bar service.

This area is situated in what was the original pub bar and kitchen of the 16th Century farm house, with two large inglenook fireplaces at either end and the original farm house ovens, exposed beams, many local photographs. Brass, copper and items from a bygone age adorn the walls, with individual Dining for up to 36 people depending on layout, in an intimate and cosy atmosphere.

This room also houses our now famous carvery.

The main bar has a welcoming coal and log fire during the winter months, originally a barn and cheese loft with traditional farmhouse tables and seating for around 40 people.

With natural Purbeck stone walls, High vaulted ceiling with exposed timbers, decorated with pictures, interesting items from a bygone era. Books, brass, copper, board games, and a cabinet full of unusual by gone items this houses the bar servery, and our popular Wine Shack.

Bespoke menus are available and designed to suit your event and within your budget. Please ask to meet Matthew or Maurice.

There is a formal dining area subject to weather under a Canopy. With formal dining tables and comfortable chairs for around 30 people. Set on Astra Turf and surrounded with tubs of flowers, subject to availability on a first-come-first-serve basis. Full menu and table service.

Our garden with spectacular views over the Purbeck hills has large 6 seat traditional pub benches for families and people to dine out side. Our Garden is only for people to consume food and drinks purchased at the New Inn. Dogs are welcome in this area, kept on a lead. Please ask at the bar if you require water or food for your pets.
